The Campbell Duo
It began with Hugh Campbell's splendid settings to three pieces from Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet
Duo - Instrumental
- Hugh Campbell - Guitar
- Vicky Campbell - Flute
The Campbell Duo offer a rare chance to hear the sensuous and exciting sound of wind & strings – a whole orchestra's worth of textures within two instruments.
We offer a wide and unique repertoire from early music right through to recently written repertoire.
Our varied programmes offer the depth and precision of renaissance and baroque music, impressionism with the warm and sensual sounds of flute and guitar, vivid Gypsy dances from Spain, delightful Norwegian Lyric miniatures, a sabre dance from Russia and a Japanese evocation of the sea featuring the alto flute.
The Campbell Duo have given numerous first performances, and have had many pieces written specifically for them. Recently Hugh has turned his attention to the wider repertoire of orchestral works of the twentieth century and arranged them for the unique combination of flute and guitar.
The Duo have played at many major venues including the Purcell Room, London, and have performed at most of the principal festivals and summer schools, including Prussia Cove, Cannington, and The Scottish International Guitar Festival. They have recently toured throughout the UK, Europe and Scandinavia.
In his capacity as lutenist Hugh has worked with many singers and early music ensembles, most recently with Capella Nova.
The Campbell Duo's Mountain Songs CD has recently been broadcast across America.
After living in London Hugh & Vicky have moved to Scotland relocating close to Hugh's home town of Dundee.
The Duo have recently returned from Norway where they were recording music written for them by Norwegian Composers.
