The Danú Duo is a versatile new collaboration between Irish soprano Louise Martyn and Thai pianist Nadanai Laohakunakorn. Formed in Switzerland, the duo recently relocated to the UK, where they aim to present a wide range of art song and operatic repertoire in engaging and accessible performances.
Louise Martyn is a lyric soprano with a wide-ranging repertoire of opera, art song and oratorio. In 2019, she performed the roles of Cathleen in Riders to the Sea by Vaughan Williams (Swiss Opera Studio), and Kate in Puccini’s Madama Butterfy (Theater Orchester Biel Solothurn). Louise has sung the roles of Suor Genovieffa and First Alms Sister in Suor Angelica, Dido (Dido and Aeneas) and Erisbe (L’Ormindo). Her interest in lieder led her to create a recording of art songs in 2018 in commemoration of the Irish war poet Francis Ledwidge, titled Lon ag longhaire, A blackbird singing.
Nadanai Laohakunakorn is a pianist with a particular interest in vocal and chamber music. He has worked extensively with singers, with repertoire ranging from romantic lieder to modern songs, and has collaborated professionally with the Institut Stimmkunst (Zurich) and Opera Siam (Bangkok) as répétiteur and conductor. He has appeared as a soloist with the Siam Philharmonic Orchestra and Siam Sinfonietta, and performs regularly in the UK and abroad. Nadanai studied at Trinity College, Cambridge, and currently works at the University of Edinburgh as a research scientist and group leader in synthetic biology.
