Repertoire
The Copper Cats with their feisty brass section perform traditional Red Hot Roots New Orleans Jazz and blues, with Ali singing several French and Creole songs and playing washboard.
Bedlam Swing are passionate about prohibition era blues, gospel and jazz. The band offer a chance to hear ancient rarely heard Southern blues songs performed with prowess along with the Great American Songbook and many lesser known gems.
Biography
Ali is a five-time award winner/nominee of the Best Jazz Vocalist award (Scottish jazz awards) and she has built a solid reputation as the quintessential "go-to" vocalist for swinging vintage jazz and pre-war blues. With a career spanning 15 years and as a USA/UK citizen, Ali's many years of living in New Orleans and California offer the listener a uniquely solid authenticity to this specialised music.
Ali performs internationally and works with the biggest names in Scottish jazz as well as leading figures in the worldwide swing dance and traditional jazz communities.
As an early jazz and blues historian Ali also offers up interesting chat on the music she performs and she can also bring performance swing dancers or even give a swing dance lesson if the client wishes.
With an ever growing repertoire, Ali delights in her lifetime work of exploring the jazz archives to find ancient gems to share - from saucy and fun, to dark and sinister, her bands are working hard to resurrect amazing forgotten songs and as an early jazz historian Ali offers up interesting and educational stage chat in a bid to help keep this rich musical heritage alive.
