Repertoire
The Aesop Ensemble prides themselves on being a versatile group with repertoire spanning intimate Baroque chamber music pieces, western art song, opera arias and excerpts, through to lighter folk songs and songs from the musicals. A particular calling card for the ensemble is to reimagine storytelling in song through new instrumental/vocal arrangements and staging. The musical elements of these performances are generally complimented by conversations between the artists and the audience. The degree of formality of the concert can be easily tailored to the given context, as can the length of the programme.
Biography
The Aesop Ensemble seeks to reimagine storytelling through song. Its four core members — Jessica Leary (soprano), Andrew Mctaggart (Baritone), Andrew Forbes (Piano), and Andrew Huggan (Cello) — have worked together over the last decade. Collectively, they have appeared with companies including Scottish Opera, Dunedin Consort, BBC SSO, Grange Park Opera, Bayreuth Festival (Germany), Opéra National de Lorraine (France), Le concert d'Astrée (France), RSNO, and Buxton International Festival, and at festivals and venues including Edinburgh International Festival, BBC London Proms, Wigmore Hall, and Barbican Centre London.
