Biography
The Thistle Trio is a Scottish based wind trio.
The ensemble recently emerged from the friendship and passion of 3 musicians wishing to share their music in an interactive and inclusive way across all ages and backgrounds.
Laura Cioffi (flutes), Gaynor Gowman (oboe/cor anglais) and Pawel Jaworski (clarinets) are all enthusiastic, friendly, passionate and approachable musicians.
All musicians have played together over the last 7 years in a variety of orchestral and chamber music settings.
Versatile and talented musicians as well as keen arrangers, the trio is delighted to explore all their auxiliary instruments and to arrange traditional music as well as symphonic and opera repertoire offering their audience a rich musical experience of sounds and timbres.
All three musicians were trained in the UK (Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Edinburgh Napier, Trinity College, apprentices of Scottish orchestras) and abroad (France, Poland, Germany).
They all regularly freelance across Scotland with the professional orchestras (RSNO, Scottish Ballet, Scottish Opera, SCO, London Concertante, Scottish Concert Orchestra) and are also guests internationally with orchestras (Italy, Malta, Russia, Spain).
Outside of their performing activities, Laura, Gaynor & Pawel are all passionate and dedicated tutors, teaching across various schools in the Borders, Edinburgh City, Angus, Glasgow City, in England as well as with Sistema Scotland coaching hundreds of young people to develop their musical talents.
The Thistle Trio is happy to offer traditional performances, interactive performances as well as workshops for audiences of all ages, needs and backgrounds.
